First Nations

First Nations is a term used to describe Aboriginal peoples of Canada who are ethnically neither Métis nor Inuit, according to a list of terms compiled by the First Nations Studies Program at the University of British Columbia. This phrase came into common usage in the 1970s and ‘80s and generally replaced the term Indian to refer to Indigenous people of Canada. The term is not widely used in the U.S.
